Raymond Holt becomes the captain of the NYPD's fictional 99th precinct and almost immediately clashes with Jake Peralta as he is childish but a great detective, who's as immature as he is skilled at solving crimes. In other events, the precinct's annual Halloween heist bet is established, Charles Boyle is shot in the butt while protecting partner Detective Rosa Diaz from a criminal with a grudge against Holt, the squad gets a glimpse into Holt's home life at a party thrown by him and his husband Kevin, Charles begins a relationship with a woman, Vivian, that ends when their engagement is called off and Jake develops feelings for his partner, fellow detective Amy Santiago after winning a bet against her, that sees them go on a fake date and have a great time. Amy begins dating Teddy, a cop whom she knew from earlier, much to Jake's jealousy. The season ends with Jake going undercover.

The first season received mostly positive reviews, with many praising the cast, setting, and humor, although the Boyle-Rosa plot throughout the season was criticized. The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports an 89% approval rating, with an average score of 7.32/10, based on 57 reviews. The website's consensus reads, "Led by the surprisingly effective pairing of Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a charming, intelligently written take on the cop show format."[23] Metacritic gave the first season of the show a weighted average rating of 70/100 based on 33 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[24]

Fox placed a 13-episode order for the single-camera ensemble comedy in May 2013.[5] The series was picked up for a full season of 22 episodes in October 2013, and was later chosen to air with the sitcom New Girl in a "special one-hour comedy event" as the Super Bowl XLVIII lead-out programs.[6] It was filmed at CBS Studio Center in Studio City, Los Angeles.[7] The exterior view of the fictional 99th Precinct building was the actual 78th Precinct building in Brooklyn.[8]

In February 2021, NBC announced that the eighth season of 10 episodes would be the last,[21] and further announced that the eighth-season premiere would be delayed until August 12, 2021.[22][23][2] Two episodes aired back-to-back each week for five weeks and the series concluded on September 16, 2021.[24]

In June 2020, Crews said that the planned direction of the eighth season was being altered in response to the murder of George Floyd, with Goor cancelling four "ready to go" episodes as a result.[25][26] Samberg also stated that the series would be "striking a balance" between addressing police brutality and maintaining its comedic style.[27] It also incorporated the COVID-19 pandemic during the season.[20] Although initially announced as part of NBC's fall schedule, the eighth-season premiere was pushed back to 2021 due to the pandemic.[28]

Set in Quebec City, Escouade 99 has a budget of 4 million for the first season of the series,[88] which is approximately the same budget as a single episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.[citation needed] Following the release of the first trailer, Fumero criticized the casting, specifically that of white actresses in the roles based on Amy Santiago and Rosa Diaz.[89] Escouade 99 is also already casting a second season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been running for seven successful seasons across Fox and NBC. While all 137 episodes have packed in their own gags and charms, none of them could have become a reality without a successful first season. That's what we're here to look at now. To do this, we'll be using the star ratings on IMDb.

While the series began with tough, no-nonsense Ray Holt taking over as Captain of the NYPD's 99th precinct and his clash with Detective Jake Peralta, the show's first season ended up becoming so much more, focusing on the entire unit and their shenanigans. And thank goodness for that, because if I had never gotten to meet Gina and see her obsession with Kwazy Cupcakes transfer over to Captain Holt, there would be a huge void in my life that could never be filled.

But that crush became dormant while Boyle found love with food author Vivian. The two were supposed to get married and move to Canada, until Boyle told her he couldn't leave New York and she later dumped him. Boyle rebounded at the end of the season after getting drunk and waking up next to Gina. God do I hope the whole precinct finds out about this insane pairing in Season 2. And God do I hope the others tease them about it for a little while. It would be funny to see how Gina particularly handles the teasing, rather than being the one to dish it out.

She's amazing, she introduced Captain Holt to Kwazy Cupcakes, she was the master of burns on the show's first season, and she hooked up with Boyle. Besides that, when it comes to Gina, I think you need to watch her antics for yourself to fully understand her awesomeness.

He is introduced on season three where he and Rosa eventually get engaged. He fakes his death and goes on the run to escape from a mob boss who wants him dead. He returns on season four and begins to work as a private investigator. On season five, he and Rosa break up.

Throughout the season, you tried out Jake in a partnership with every regular character, even Gina at one point. Were there combinations that you felt especially pleased with or surprised by?

You started off the series with Boyle crushing seriously on Diaz and at least hints of Jake being attracted to Santiago, but both of those things waxed and waned before becoming a bigger deal again at the end of the season. How were you trying to approach both pieces of unresolved sexual tension? And were you at all tempted to have Boyle wake up in bed with Rosa, or was he always going to wind up in Gina's bed there?

Mike Schur: We wanted to slow-play Jake and Amy, and only bring it to the fore at the end of the season. The basic idea was that Jake slowly realizes over the year that he should be interested in women like Amy, and also that women like Amy aren't going to be interested in him unless he cleans up his act a little. Charles and Rosa was mostly a comedy story about a sad sack who projects a lot of complicated feelings onto a powerful, dark and mysterious woman regardless of whether or not she is right for him. We came up with the twist ending of Charles and Gina fairly early on, as a way to complicate everyone's world heading into season 2.

Terry spent half the season working at a desk, afraid to be out in the street again, but then he got better and was much more active in the season's second half. Did you think the cowardly giant gag had run its course, or were you just itching to give Terry Crews more to do? 041b061a72
